Just as a side note, I will buy the original 74-79 steering wheel from anyone who does not want theirs, provided it is this type: I know a lot of people who think the late model steering wheels were ugly too, although I don't mind them. The spline size in the steering column was changed in late 73, so it is possible for you to have the 74-79 spline diameter if you have a 73 that was manufactured very late in the model year.
It is not a matter of hub depth, but rather spline diameter. Original PETRI steering is one of the hardest item to come by but now you can have it new from. The spline size was changed from large to small I believe (I forgot the exact dimensions). The steering wheels from 74-79 will not fit anything prior. The FLAT-4 banjo steering wheel is designed from the original PETRI steering wheel which fitted to many of the coachbuilders of the 1950s, including Rometsch, Hebmuller and 356As.
